I am not one who really cares to celebrate birthdays, but this year I have much to be grateful for. This year's birthday happens to be the 10 year anniversary of my 21st birthday. So what does one do the morning of their birthday? Why run 5.5 miles of course. I went to my favorite park and laced up my new shoes! That's right my husband bought me new shoes for my birthday. They actually arrived last week but he would not even let me open the box. It was a total tease having them but not able to use them. So this morning I woke up at 5:45am for my morning run at 6:30. The even better part was that I was able to run with my running partner Martha.

After my gorgeous run this morning, I came home to a wonderful breakfast spread, flowers, and a gigantic birthday card. It literally had a pop-up island! That man always has a way to make me smile. It's good to know that after all these years together he still puts up with me and my crazy running hobby. He even offered to run with me this morning if Martha couldn't go. Luckily for him, Martha and I ran and he was able to sleep a bit more.
It's pretty hard eating healthy at restaurants. Even if you order something light, the portions are still astronomically larger than what they should be. So for lunch I tried to eat something less than 1000 calories. This is actually really hard! I ended up ordering a delicious Seared Ahi Salad. I asked for the dressing on the side to also limit the calories. A lot of people think ordering a salad is healthy but most of the calories come from the dressing. So try to always ask for it on the side. I guess I was kinda counter productive with watching my calories since I ordered a margarita...whoops! And then they gave me a free dessert...double whoops! I couldn't let it go to waste so my husband and I shared it, not the margarita though. I drank that sucker like it was my last drink on earth.
Dinner was also great but I was too tired to really take any pictures and the pictures I did take came out pretty blurry or dark. I had a Salmon Salad with dressing on the side. I only ate half the salmon and took the rest home. It will make great leftovers tomorrow with some brown rice. Overall I had a great day. Props to my husband for making my day pretty special. Good run, new shoes, great food, good company...what more could I ask for to ring in my birthday?
