Getting Back On Track

On Sundays I used to blog about my weekly workouts. It was a great way to keep me accountable of my training but there really isn't that much to report these days. I have been a bit preoccupied and have really tried to rest my feet due to my plantar fasciitis. I am hoping this will start changing and I am hoping I will go back to blogging about my workouts so that I can keep motivating myself. This week I got two runs in and it felt great. Minimal to no pain which is pretty much a miracle these days!

On Monday I got a quick six mile run with my running partner and another co-worker. We went to my favorite park of course. I was super excited to head back to my park since I hadn't really ran there in a few weeks. Nothing had changed other than there was more grass due to some rain we had received the past few weeks. I was more than anything proud of my co-worker since she has improved so much! In November, she made a goal to get back to running and eat healthier and she is doing great. Couldn't be happier for her.

I have been scared to run mostly because I just don't want my plantar fasciitis to get worse.  Luckily I barely felt any pain on that run. I am hoping it's a good sign that things are getting better. When I move, I will no longer have my physical therapist so I told him my feet needed to be fixed by the time I left. No pressure right??

Then on Friday I got a real short run in with my doggies. I just ran around my neighborhood but they were as happy as can be pulling me along and wagging their little tails. My ankle actually hurt a bit but it got better the more I ran. Since going to PT, I have noticed that my ankles are extremely weak. This stems from a soccer injury in high school. I tore some ligaments in my ankle and then my other ankle compensated and ended up getting weak also. I can't even remember which ankle was the one I tore ligaments on since they both are equally weak. I am just a bit broken but I am still hopeful.

I love running. It is my workout of choice. I am not a size 0 nor do I have legs of a gazelle but running is what makes me happy. I am not fast but I get out there and do the best that my body can do. If I wasn't injured I would be piling on more miles but of course I can't do that right now. I do however have a race coming up in a week. I am both scared and excited for it. Scared because I have done no real training since my last race and I don't know how my feet will handle it. Excited because it is a race after all and I get to run. I may not PR but I will make the most of it. Slowly but surely I am staring to get back on track.

Friday Five: My Next 5 Races

I can't believe Friday finally arrived. The sad thing though is that today is technically my Sunday. I've had a few days off and tomorrow I will be going back to work for three straight on. I know three days doesn't seem like a lot but 12.5 hour shifts are tough man! So today I am linking up with with Courtney from Eat Pray Run DC,  Mar from Mar On The Run, and Cynthia from You Signed Up For What? for Friday Five. The topic this week is Five Races to Run in 2015. Since one of my goals for 2015 was to run 7 half marathons I am going to list my next potential races for this year.

I guess I should start off by saying that this list was made prior to the decision to move down to San Diego. Three on my list are local races which I may or may not be able to do once I move. If this is the case I am sure I can find new races to run while in San Diego. So here goes...my potential next 5 races:

  1. The Heavenly Half Marathon: This race is actually in a week and I am both scared and excited to run it. It is a part of the Sole 2 Soul Race Series here locally. This happens to be the first race for the series. It's a downhill course up in the mountains so I am looking forward to beautiful scenery while I run.
  2. Rock n Roll San Diego Half Marathon: I like to run this race yearly since it's in my hometown, I am actually able to run with my high school friends, and I get VIP access every time I run it.
  3. The Hell of a Half Marathon: This is the second race for the Sole 2 Soul Series and it is a hilly race in the middle of the summer. The name fits the race perfectly! It is an incredibly challenging course but if I want that extra medal for completing the series then it has to be done.
  4. Judgment Day Half Marathon: This is the last and final race for the Sole 2 Soul Series and where you get all the perks from running all three races. You get extra swag and VIP access so I am hoping I can really finish the series but being farther away might make this difficult.
  5. Rock n Roll San Antonio Half Marathon: This race is going to be a fun race with my high school friends. We'll fly out there, sight see, eat, drink, and run. It is at the end of the year so I have plenty of time to fit in some extra races to finish off my goal of 7 half marathons to complete for 2015.

What is your next race for 2015?
Any races out of town/state?

Thinking Out Loud

Hey there everyone! I can't believe it is Thursday already. I worked night shift last night so I have my days all mixed up. I am just trying to wrap my brain on the fact that I pretty much lost a day. I slept only two hours after my 12 hour shift because I had errands to run so I didn't get much time to rest up.  I am pretty much starting to drag but thought I would do a quick link up with Amanda from Running with Spoons for her Thursday Thinking Out Loud link-up.

First of all I want to say I am super happy that I have been asked to join two more Ambassador programs. I am now an Ambassador for Girls Gone Sporty and FitFluential! I am so excited that they accepted me in to their programs. I am really excited that I am not only joining great fitness communities but I get to network with more amazing women who want to encourage other women in living healthy lifestyles.

I have a race coming up in in less than two weeks. Am I ready? Not even close! Am I excited to run this race? I actually am. The course is absolutely beautiful and has some gorgeous scenery. The race is up in the mountains and the views are amazing. It also helps that this race happens to be a downhill course so it will go super fast. Also they give a lot of stuff with this race so I am excited for the blanket I get at the end. Who doesn't love free stuff?

I am moving in less than a month and have I gotten anything done around my house to prepare for this move? Nope! Well not entirely true but it feels like nothing has been done. Last weekend we did some yard work to give the house a bit more curb appeal and we hired a cleaning to do some deep cleaning in preparation for realtors. Have I put the house on the market though? Nope...we are still interviewing realtors but we have one in mind. Moving is really starting to stress me out and I have yet to actually pack up anything. My dogs are actually moving first. They will stay with my parents until we move down there and get settled. We need the dogs away so that we can truly show the house and finish our back yard.

Cancer sucks! I mean it truly sucks. My life lately has been surrounded by this horrible disease and I wish it would stop. I keep praying for a cure in at least my lifetime but who knows if they will ever discover it. I have cried many tears over this diagnosis that I am now numb. I feel like I am just going through the daily motions. I just keep hoping and praying for the safety and comfort of my family and all families going through a difficult time due to this horrible disease.

Songs to Keep You Motivated!

Guess what day it is? Hump Day! What better way to get you through the rest of the week than by listening to some good tunes to keep you motivated.  I love music...it is my biggest motivator. If I am running or working out and listening to a great playlist it completely gets me going. I've tried running without music and it's tough. When I was training for my triathlon I did that since headphones weren't allowed. I did it but it absolutely sucked. Hated every minute of it. I felt like I could've done better if I had my music.  Anyways just thought I would share some of my favorite "pump me up" songs lately. Have a great day!

Tove Lo - Talking Body

Lilly Wood - Prayer in C

Walk the Moon - Shut Up and Dance

Ella Henderson - Ghost

Calvin Harris ft Ellie Goulding - I Need Your Love

Do you run without music?
What keeps you motivated when working out?

Visiting Yosemite National Park

Happy Monday! Hope you had a wonderful weekend filled with love since Saturday was Valentine's Day. I am not really one to celebrate Valentine's day. I just find it to be yet another Hallmark holiday so I typically just work on this day. However, this year was the first time I actually had it off so I asked the hubby if he wanted to head up to the mountains for some fresh air and some trails. I am very fortunate that Yosemite National Park happens to be in my own back yard. It is a quick hour and a half drive yet there are locals that have never seen this natural beauty.

We left our house around 7am on Saturday. My husband told me, "You know how much I love you? I woke up early on a Saturday for you." Man he cracks me up. We didn't exchange any gifts. We actually hardly ever do. All we wanted to do was spend some quality time together and enjoy Yosemite. Once we move it will be a lot harder to come and visit this beautiful National Park. We picked a great day to visit. Not only was it free since it was President's Day Weekend but the weather couldn't have been any better!

We first went to see Bridalveil Falls. The waterfall was absolutely beautiful and to think it has hardly rained! Actually I was completely surprised there was no snow on the ground. The weather was in the mid 70s and bright and sunny as can be. The weather looked nothing like winter.

This entire park is stunning with great views all over. We actually pulled over a few times in order to get some great pictures. I took my good Nikon camera but I have yet to download them. All these pictures are from my phone. Some came out better than others but honestly pictures wouldn't do it justice.

We went to Yosemite Valley and started walking towards the lower falls. We were able to see them from far away but then we decided to head the opposite way and hike towards Mirror Lake. There was practically no one on the trail and that was fine with us! It was so peaceful and serene.

Our hike towards Mirror Lake was awesome and reaching our final destination was so rewarding. The lake was beautiful and so majestic. We had worked up quite an appetite during our hike so we ate there while enjoying some great views.

There are so many things to do in Yosemite. Of course you can always camp there, go mountain bike riding, go out for a run, hike the hundreds of hiking trails, etc. The list can honestly go on and on depending on the season. You can even get married there! We actually watched two weddings take place while there. We only went to Yosemite for the day but if given the opportunity I would love to stay there for a few days and hike more trials. People from all over the world come to see this National Park and I have been blessed to have it so close to me for all these years while living in Fresno.

Have you ever visited Yosemite or any other National Park?

I AM MOVING TO SAN DIEGO!!!

I know, I know it has been awhile since I last posted. I used to post 4-6 times a week but lately I have been a bit pre-occupied. Like I said I have been trying to make some positive changes in my life so they have taken over my life right now. But now it is safe to share with the blogger world that I am officially moving back home to San Diego! Eeeekk!! I am excited, nervous, sad, and overwhelmed all at the same time.

I moved out when I was 18 to go to college in San Luis Obispo. I picked the school farthest away from home in order to break free and become an adult. I felt like I truly became who I am now because of my time at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. It was in 2007 that I made yet another move on my own to finish some more school. The move was to Fresno, CA or better know as "The Armpit of California." This city was only supposed to be a pit stop in my life. I had every intention of moving away as soon as school had ended. Of course life has a funny way of working out. God had a different plan.

While in Fresno I met my wonderful husband, met amazing friends, and found a job I truly love. I started building roots here, but once again God had a different plan in store for me.  Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would miss Fresno this much. I haven't even left yet but I am getting emotional just thinking of all the friendships I will leave behind.

So why leave? Well last year my father got cancer. I briefly wrote about it last year. Him getting cancer really put things into perspective. I have been away for almost 14 years and it's now time to go back home. I realized last year that life is too short. Family is everything and without them you have nothing. My family means everything to me and I am lucky to have most of them in San Diego.  I am looking forward to seeing my cousin's babies, my niece and nephew, my parents, my San Diego friends, and most importantly the backbone to our family...my amazing grandmother.

Can't wait until this new chapter in my life happens. Stay tuned for new adventures, new running routes, beach outings, and lots more family time.  They say home is where the heart is and right now my heart is happy to say it is San Diego. I am slowly starting to feel like the old me. My running mojo is slowly coming back and I am excited to check out all of the outdoor activities I can do while living back in San Diego. Thank you for continuing to read my blog during this transition period in my life. Your continued support is what keeps me going. San Diego here I come!

Any other bloggers/readers living in San Diego?
Would love to meet up!

Friday Five: 5 Fitness Snapshots

Happy Friday! As I said in the previous blog post, I have been in kind of a funk. I haven't had much motivation to workout, but then I remembered that I was linking up with Courtney from Eat Pray Run DC,  Mar from Mar On The Run, and Cynthia from You Signed Up For What? for Friday Five: Fitness Snapshots. I started looking through my phone gallery and found some great pictures that truly represent me. Fitness can be found in so many shapes and forms so it was fun to compile my favorite five. This is exactly what I needed to get my workout mojo back!

PUSHUPS: I have made a goal for myself to really improve my form and do a lot more than 5! Yeah I am pretty bad when it comes to pushups. Luckily my husband has really been working with me. I can already see progress!

RACES: This picture is from race day for the Carlsbad Half Marathon. It was my first race of the year and I did exceptionally well considering I have been battling with plantar fasciitis. Seeing this picture brought me such joy because it was the last long run I've done and I am just aching at the chance of doing my next one.

GYM WORKOUTS: I love going to the gym because I have so many options to choose from. This picture was all about wall-sits and some much needed sauna time. You can usually find me on a treadmill and then hitting the free weights though.

SNOWBOARDING: Like I said you can get a workout by doing so many other things than just running or hitting the gym. This year I went to the snow to snowboard and man was it a total leg and core workout! I was sore for quite a few days afterwards.

HIKING: When I came down to visit family over the holidays I was able to squeeze in a quick hike. It was beautiful since it has 360 degree views of San Diego. Not only did I get a good workout but I was able to marvel in the beauty of my hometown city. I miss it there and hope to move back someday.

Any plans for the weekend?

Thinking Out Loud

Hello Blog World! It has been awhile. I know I have been a hermit but I have my reasons. So today I decided to link up with Amanda from Running with Spoons in order to get some things out of my chest.

Well for starters I have been away from the blogger world because I have been down in the dumps with my workouts especially my running. I started the blog to hold myself accountable and to motivate others. How can I post anything when I can't practice what I preach?  My plantar fasciitis has been really painful and I have only been able to run once in the past week and a half. It just depresses me to know I can't do the one thing that helps me clear my head.

Another reason is that...well it is incredibly busy at work. I know it is an excuse but honestly my body and brain are exhausted from working at the hospital. If you have been reading the blog you know that I am a Respiratory Therapists at a children's hospital. Right now is the busiest time of the year for us. We are short staffed and over worked due to the high acuity of patients. We have been breaking records of patients coming in through the Emergency Department.  Since we are short staffed I tend to be on my feet all day doing treatments, checking on ventilators, etc. and it aggravates my feet. I can barely walk by the end of the day sometimes because the pain is so bad. At least I am in great company at work! :)

So then when you add no running, no working out, and crazy work stress, I get all mopey and depressed. Basically I am in a funk. A deep funk.  There are some other pending issues that are also creating high anxiety for me. Can't really elaborate on those until I find more answers but just know I am really trying to make positive changes.  My anxiety level is super high and I need to snap out of it but once I get into it, it is hard to get out of.  What usually helps is my running but haven't been able to do that so I am trying other ways to find my workout mojo back. I hear yoga is nice for relaxation so I have been thinking of doing that. I have been so tired that I haven't even read some of my other favorite blogs. It all stops today though.

No more excuses. I have to get back to my normal self because this Daisy is just plain depressing. Life gets in the way...I get it but I set some goals for myself this year and I need to turn these goals/dreams into realities. Okay enough of my soap opera, I am actually heading out the door and driving down to San Diego for a REALLY short trip. Hope you have a wonderful day.
