The Final Two Weeks Before My Race


I can't believe it's August already. It feels like the year is just flying by. I swear it was just the beginning of the summer! Everything seems to be happening sooner than I thought. You know what also seems to be approaching sooner than expected? My next race! It is two weeks away and I am both excited and nervous for this one. Excited because I get to hang out and stay at my wonderful friend's place. Nervous because it is a whole new course, new challenges, and lots of hills.


This course is right in the middle of summer in the Central Valley of California. For those that aren't familiar, it gets insanely hot during the summer over there. I mean unbearably hot to the point where you ask yourself if you are in hell. Hence the name for this half marathon: HELL OF A HALF. Now I did just move from the Central Valley so you would think I would be used to the heat, but in all honesty I have acclimated to San Diego weather so well now that I am a wuss if anything gets close to the 90s. Calm me spoiled but there is a reason people love San Diego.

For this race I have been training on hills around my neighborhood and have also been cycling with my bike trainer. I know that I can finish a half marathon with no problem. I've even done some with no training in the past...BTW would not recommend that! This time around though the hills are what have me worried. Like really REALLY worried. I have only been able to run about two miles of pure hills but my pace has gotten so much better.  I can only pray that this will help carry me to the finish line or at least the mile long hills. 


Since I have had to modify my training plan due to my move and my new work schedule, the longest run I have done is 9.5 miles. Haven't quite decided if that will be the last long run since it is pretty close to race day. Maybe tomorrow I may run 11 miles but who knows. Like I have said I am not looking for a PR but a good safe run. I just have to be cautious considering I am prone to injury.


Fingers crossed I make it through the next two weeks in one piece.  To be honest, I can't wait to be done with this race. It has caused me a bit of stress and anxiety. So as long as I don't get injured, I am sure I can get through it. Well I really have no other choice but to push through the anxiety and suck it up. Bring it on!
