My Year in Running 2015

As this year is coming to an end in just a few days, I wanted to take the time to reflect on what a running year it's been. I started off 2015 thinking I would run 7 half marathons (which to me is a lot). I know there are a ton of other bloggers out there that manage to run a race every month but I for one do not have the funds to keep up that running habit. Nor do I have the time to train that much. Don't get me wrong if I could, I would. 2015 was full of ups and downs but overall running was my salvation, my stress reliever. Unfortunately I was one half marathon short but I did happen to run one 10k race at the end. It kinda makes up for it right?

So here is a fun little survey to go over my 2015 Running Year:
Best race experience:

Meeting the running legend, Meb! I must say that this was the highlight of my year. I knew that I had a pretty good chance of spotting him at the San Diego Rock n Roll Marathon, but I didn't know if I would get a chance to talk to him or even take a picture with him. Man I was so happy when I did both! Last year I saw him at the same race but never got the opportunity to say hi. He is such an amazing runner and super sincere which just makes him so much more inspiring.

Best run:

Okay so 2015 did not give me a PR. I actually suffered from plantar fasciitis for most of the year which made training tricky at times. Even though I never had that amazing race, I did experience some wonderful runs. I mean who wouldn't love running in San Diego weather with beach views year round!?! I made a goal to run by the water at least once a week since moving down here. It makes my runs so much more enjoyable and fun. I literally get lost in my own thoughts when I have these running views.

Best new piece of running gear:

The only thing that I bought a lot of this year was running clothes. I got a Fabletics account and just went crazy during some months. I have absolutely loved everything that I've purchased, but I must say I have one pair of leggings I wear more than the others. It has a graffiti pattern and it just matches my shoes so well! I get a lot of compliments on them.

Best running advice you’ve received this year:

"Enjoy the run." Not only was it the best advice it was also my motto for 2015. I tried not to over stress in getting my miles in for training. I focused on just making the most of my runs and enjoying them. Some weeks were a bit more chaotic than others but I still wanted to have fun and not be burnt out.
Most inspirational runner:

One of my favorite runners to follow is Janae from Hungry Runner Girl. She is not an elite runner but she is definintely fast! This whole year she was training for a sub 3 hour marathon, but unfortunately due to illness she didn't reach that goal. What I love about her though is that she is open about all her struggles and all her triumphs. With all that went wrong during her training she was still all smiles and positive. I really hope 2016 is her year to get that PR!
Favorite picture from a run or race this year:
I love running but when I can run with great friends, well then that just makes the experience much more enjoyable. Two pictures come to mind and I just couldn't choose between the two. The first one was from The Silver Stand Half Marathon. Our friends Sylvia and Andres drove down from Exeter for this race. This was Sylvia's first half marathon and she did so good! I was so proud.

The second picture is from the San Dieogo Rock n Roll. My husband joined us this year but the rest of us have been running it together for a few years now. Our favorite part is the end when we get to eat and drink all the calories we burned!

Race experience you would repeat in a heartbeat:

I ran The Sole to Soul Series this year I would definitely repeat it again.  I had a blast at each one of the three races and got some really good running swag.  I received three beautiful medals, an insulated water bottle, three tech running shirts, a throw blanket, a hooded sweatershirt, a running sweater, a coffee mug, a travel coffee mug, a tub of Fluid Recovery drink, a visor, running socks, and some other stuff I just can't remember. Yep, and it was all free for signing up! I also just had such a great time during the series because I had two friends that ran all three with me. At the last race my niece was able to run it, so it was great to see some family there supporting us.

If you could sum up your year in a couple of words what would they be?
My 2015 running year was memorable and fun. I am grateful that I was able to run as much as I did with friends and by myself. I am glad I pushed myself even with setbacks along the way. I don't know what 2016 has in store for me, but I am just hoping it has a few good runs to continue the good times.
