1st Week of Half Marathon Training

The beginning of March meant it was training time! My next race coming up is the SD Rock n Roll Half Marathon. I absolutely love this race for many reasons. For one...I am able to get a free race entry. With race prices increasing, having a free race entry is quite amazing. The second reason I love this race is because it happens to be in my home town. It is incredible how much support you get from people all around. The race happens to be on June 5th so that gives me a few months to truly train for this one. Since it's been awhile since my last race, I am shooting for breaking 2 hours on this one. 


With my work schedule being all over the place, I know it will be a bit difficult to follow a training plan. There are a ton of new training plans I was hoping to try but I am just going to incorporate a little of each one. My training this time around will consist of more cross training and running on the trails. Running on trails is new to me but I am truly enjoying it. I am not really sure why I never ran on them before but since moving to San Diego I have been going at least once a week. 


Also this time around I am truly going to enjoy my easy runs. I am going to have to remind myself that they are meant to be recovery runs and not worry about time. Since I have a history of plantar fasciitis, I am going to have to really listen to my feet and stretch them out after EVERY single run. This is something that will be very crucial to my training. In the past, my heel pain has deterred me from running. I think I have a good handle on it now but I'll be honest and get a bit lazy after some runs. 


WORKOUTS AT A GLANCE:

MONDAY: 2 treadmill miles with 6.6-6.8 mph pace,  Dynamic Strength Workout

TUESDAY: 3 treadmill miles with 6.6-7.0 mph pace, Cardio Extreme Workout

WEDNESDAY: 3 treadmill miles with 6.6-6.8 mph pace, Legs and Butt Shaper
                      
THURSDAY: 4 miles on Mission Bay, Metabolic Booster

FRIDAY: 4 miles by San Diego River/Mission Bay

SATURDAY: The Super Run 5K (in memory of our dear friend AJ Jabonero)

SUNDAY: Rest Day (took the dogs to the dog park)



So that was my week in a nutshell. I'll be posting my workouts/training weekly just to keep myself accountable and if it motivates you along the way then it serves as a double purpose. I am still very much hooked on the BeFit workouts, so I am doing the 30 day shred all over again.
